Job Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Diode Dynamics, you will model automotive LED lighting components and build full lamp assemblies in Solidworks, working from planning through production to provide designs and supporting data for all steps of the engineering and manufacturing process. You will plan, review, and execute on new product ideas, based on customer feedback, customer requirements, and your own creativity. You will become a key member of a quickly-expanding team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- 3D modeling and design of components and assemblies for automotive lamps and lighting.
- Design responsibility for brackets (sheetmetal, plastic, and 3d printed), mounting hardware, wire harnesses, housings (metal and plastic), seals, and grommets.
- Integration of designed components into full assemblies including knowledge of exploded views and BOM tables.
- Operate in-house tools for design validation, including 3D scanning (Romer CMM), 3D printing, and water jet.
- Complete first article inspection reports for initial tooled samples including dimensional review and validation testing.
- Work with the engineering team for feasibility review of product ideas, with both internal and external customer requirements.
- Collaborate with the team offering suggestions and receiving feedback from all facets of the company in order to meet end goals for cosmetics, quality, and performance.
- Other core responsibilities include DFM focus, quality improvements, BOM/weight/cost reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives including communicating technical product status and design opportunities to management.
Qualifications:
- BS Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
- 3 - 5 years of SolidWorks modeling experience is required.
- Have design experience creating parts for plastic injection and/or die cast mold.
- Familiar with designing for 3D printing, and knowledge of 3D printing methods required
- Knowledge of product development, testing, and validation processes is desired.
- Must be hands-on, with experience designing products, creating prototypes, physical assemblies, and/or manufacturing support.
- Specific knowledge of automotive lamps is a big plus, but not required.
- Should be an automotive enthusiast or have automotive industry experience.
- Self-starter, self-motivated, ability to complete project goals with minimal supervision with high attention to details and quality of work.
- Highly organized and able to collaborate with a functional team to complete project requirements.
- Strong time management skills with good planning and judgment, to accomplish goals within challenging deadlines.
- On-site attendance required, this position is not remote. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm
